Katy Perry’s Breakup Reminds Us: Great Photo Booth Photos Outlast Almost Everything

Katy Perry Photo Booth NYC

So, according to PEOPLE Magazine, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are “pretty much done” after nearly a decade together.

Honestly? I always forget they were still together. My brain is still stuck in the days of Katy and Russell Brand chaos, whipped cream bras, and full technicolor tour energy.

But let’s fast-forward to now—2025 Katy Perry. She’s been making headlines for her “astronaut era” space flight via Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin. You may remember she once reminded us that we’re all made of stardust and that we should take up space.

Well… I agree with her.

Take Up Space. In Photos, in Life & On the Dance Floor.

Whether you're a pop star or a person just trying to make it through your work week, you deserve to be seen. And not just metaphorically. I mean literally. In the photos, in the frame, in the booth.

Whether you're a guest of honor or the plus-one at a party, showing up for yourself in a photo is a bold act. It says:

“This is me. No filter. And I belong here.”

The Photo Booth Shoot That Stuck With Me

Years ago, Katy Perry did a photo booth–style shoot with photographer Yu Tsai, styled in a dramatic black feather coat, making a series of confident, campy, totally unbothered faces.

Even though it wasn’t taken at an actual event photo booth, it’s a perfect example of why these moments matter. She’s solo, expressive, funny, bold. No backup dancers. No romantic partner in the frame. Just Katy being Katy.

And that is what a photo booth should do. It should create space for you to show up as your full self. Even if that self is serving “glam alien realness with attitude.”

NYC Photo Booths Aren’t Just About Group Pics

I run Rent My Booth across New York City for weddings, proms, birthdays, mitzvahs, corporate offsites, you name it. And you know what I’ve noticed?

Some of the most powerful photos are the solo ones.

The person who jumps in by themselves.
The guest who wasn’t sure they wanted to pose… until the right moment hit.
The one who lets themselves feel like the main character for just five seconds.

Being in a photo booth is an act of self-love. It’s saying, “Hey, this is me—and y’all just have to deal with it.”

Relationships Come and Go. But the Photos Stay.

No shade to Katy’s breakup—we’ve all been there. But one thing that sticks with me from this shoot is how joyful and lasting these solo moments can be.

The feathers, the poses, the playfulness.
It’s giving Teenage Dream.
It’s giving Last Friday Night.
It’s giving “Please get out of my light, I’m doing something iconic.”

So Katy, thank you. All love to you. And next time, grab a prop or two. I’ve got boas with your name on them.
